Nigeria has achieved an important feat at the 2025 ITTF World Championships taking place in Doha, Qatar, by marking its inaugural success in the mixed doubles competition.
The spirited pair of Olajide Omotayo and Rabiat Ayoola mounted an impressive comeback to overcome Egypt’s Mahmoud Helmy and Fathy Hend with a score of 3-2 in the Round of 64.
This esteemed championship, which kicked off on Saturday, boasts participation from over 300 competitors hailing from more than 70 member associations, all contending in five distinct categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.

As stated by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), the event will unfold over a period of nine days.
Despite a rocky beginning, where they dropped the first two sets 9-11 and 7-11, Omotayo and Ayoola exhibited incredible determination.
They came back to win the following three sets with scores of 11-6, 12-10, and 11-7, securing a hard-earned 3-2 victory and progressing to the next round of the mixed doubles competition.
