Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, says Nigeria is reinforcing its standing as a premier technology hub in Africa, through the transformation of its cybersecurity landscape. The minister stated this ahead of the National Cybersecurity Conference with the theme: “Building a resilient digital future: Innovation, collaboration and resilience.” The conference will attract key decision-makers, cybersecurity experts, and industry leaders to discuss shaping the next chapter of Nigeria’s digital defense strategy. Tijani said that with Nigeria embracing digital transformation across sectors, the threats to the nation’s digital infrastructure, economy, and individual citizens are growing increasingly more sophisticated. Recognizing the critical need to address these challenges with foresight and collaboration, the minister asserted that the meeting presents a timely and strategic platform for fostering resilience, knowledge exchange, and cross-sector partnerships. The minister commended the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for its leadership role in advancing Nigeria’s cybersecurity framework. “This event is a high-impact platform for strategic dialogue, inter-agency collaboration, and the forging of cross-sector partnerships. “It signals Nigeria’s rising leadership in cybersecurity across both regional and global spheres, addressing the imperative for robust, adaptive cyber resilience in an increasingly complex threat landscape. “Between May and December 2024, Nigeria moved from the 35th to the 13th position on the global threat index, indicating a surge in cyberattacks. “In the first half of 2024, Nigeria recorded 2,721 cyber incidents, underscoring the nation’s growing vulnerability to digital threats. “Between May and December 2024, Nigeria moved from the 35th to the 13th position on the global threat index, indicating a surge in cyberattacks,” he added.
