The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has charged members of a newly inaugurated committee on gas-to-power coordination to move beyond routine oversight and deliver proactive, data-driven solutions to Nigeria’s electricity challenges.

Adelabu emphasised the need for practical recommendations that will guarantee sustainable gas supply to power generation companies, particularly through improved payment assurance mechanisms and stronger sector coordination.

He warned that the committee would be held accountable for measurable outcomes, including regular reporting, clearly defined milestones, and prompt escalation of critical issues requiring government intervention.

The minister expressed confidence in the committee’s capacity to deliver results, noting that its composition reflects a broad spectrum of stakeholders across the gas-to-power value chain. Membership includes representatives from the Ministry of Power, the Nigerian Independent System Operator, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, the Association of Power Generation Companies, the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, the Nigerian Gas Association, and consumer advocacy groups.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Alhaji Mahmuda Mamman, represented by the Director of Distribution, said the committee’s inauguration aligns with the government’s directive to urgently address persistent challenges affecting gas supply to the electricity sector.

He identified key obstacles including infrastructure deficits, pipeline vandalism, liquidity constraints, and weak coordination among stakeholders, all of which continue to limit electricity generation and hinder economic growth.

The development comes amid ongoing concerns over Nigeria’s power supply stability, with stakeholders calling for sustained reforms to strengthen the energy value chain and improve service delivery nationwide.
