Nigeria’s push to strengthen internal security has taken a major step forward as the Police Service Commission, working with the Nigeria Police Force, announced the launch of a nationwide recruitment process for 50,000 police constables. The exercise follows the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who approved an expansion of the force to improve community policing and reinforce security across the country.

The recruitment portal is now active for eligible citizens. According to the police authorities, applicants for the General Duty cadre must hold GCE O’Level, SSCE or NECO certificates with at least five credits, including English and Mathematics, earned across no more than two sittings. Those applying for the Specialists cadre require a minimum of four credits in the same subjects, along with relevant trade certificates and at least three years of practical experience.

Only Nigerian citizens by birth may apply. The age range is 18 to 25 years for General Duty applicants and 18 to 28 years for Specialists. Candidates must meet medical, physical and psychological standards. For the General Duty category, men must be at least 1.67 metres tall, while the minimum height for women is 1.64 metres. Additional details will be provided on the portal throughout the application period.

The application window opens on Monday, 15 December 2025, and closes on Sunday, 25 January 2026. Submissions must be made online through the official portal at www.npfapplication.psc.gov.ng.

The police authorities warn applicants to avoid impostors and fraudulent intermediaries. They stressed that the entire recruitment process is free of charge and that no candidate should pay any individual or group under any circumstance. Full guidelines will be made available on the PSC and NPF websites and their verified social media pages.

The commission urged qualified Nigerians to take advantage of what it described as an important opportunity to serve and support national security.
