Nigeria and Brazil are set to undertake a comprehensive review of their existing Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), aimed at facilitating the immediate initiation of direct flight operations connecting the two nations.

This announcement was made by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, Mr. Tunde Moshood, in a statement issued in Abuja.

Keyamo highlighted that the review of the BASA was a crucial aspect of the minister’s recent official visit to Brazil, during which he led a delegation to engage in significant discussions.

“Keyamo’s agenda includes a pivotal meeting with his Brazilian counterpart, the Minister of Ports and Airports, Sílvio Costa Filho, to thoroughly assess and enhance the current terms of the BASA agreement.

“This groundbreaking initiative is in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to bolster regional connectivity across Africa and South America,” the statement said.

He further noted that this direct air link is set to expand international trade opportunities, deepen diplomatic relations, and strengthen economic collaborations between Nigeria and Brazil, fostering a mutually beneficial partnership.

The statement added that during the delegation’s visit, extensive discussions were held with Embraer, a global leader in aviation manufacturing, to explore ways in which the firm can support Nigeria’s aviation sector.

“The visit represents a high-level engagement with Embraer, taking place at their headquarters in São José dos Campos, São Paulo State, where strategic ideas were exchanged on how to enhance Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem,” the minister’s aide explained.
This collaboration aims to provide improved access to modern aircraft, favorable leasing options, and a robust network of reputable financiers.

The overarching goal is to equip Nigerian aviation stakeholders with the necessary tools, resources, and partnerships to foster significant growth and expansion in the industry.
