Nigeria will mark its 65th Independence anniversary with a series of week-long national events, as the Federal Government rolls out religious, civic, and cultural activities under the theme “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) announced that the celebrations begin today, Friday, September 26, with a special Jumu’ah prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja. On Sunday, September 28, an inter-denominational church service will hold at the National Christian Centre, also in Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

A world press conference is scheduled for Monday, September 29, at the National Press Centre, Radio House, Abuja, at 10:00 a.m., where key government officials are expected to outline the significance of this year’s independence milestone.
The highlight of the commemorations comes on Tuesday, October 1, when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will deliver a live national broadcast at 7:00 a.m. to address Nigerians on the nation’s journey, challenges, and prospects for unity and progress.
The celebrations will officially close on Friday, October 3, with the presidential launch of the National Values Charter (NVC) and the grand finale of the National Campus Debate at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
This year’s anniversary is expected to spark reflections on Nigeria’s democratic journey since independence in 1960, while reinforcing calls for collective responsibility in building a stronger, more united nation.
