The Niger Police Command has successfully apprehended two male suspects in connection with an attempted kidnapping incident that occurred in Minna. In the course of the arrest, law enforcement officials recovered a locally manufactured pistol, along with a variety of other weapons.

This information was disclosed in a formal statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, on Tuesday in Minna.

According to Abiodun, the suspects, who are aged 28 and 30, were taken into custody by officers from the Tafa Division of the police following an urgent distress call from local residents on June 13 at approximately 8 p.m. The suspects had reportedly entered the premises of a victim located in the Kata area via New Bwari, with the intent to kidnap the victim’s sister.

“The dedicated police operatives from the Tafa Division responded promptly to the distress call and were able to apprehend the suspects upon their arrival at the scene,” Abiodun reported.

Upon their arrest, officers discovered a formidable cache of items in the suspects’ possession, including a locally made pistol, two knives, a walkie-talkie, two cartridges, four mobile phones, an ATM card, two electric tasers, a can of pepper spray, and various charms.

During subsequent interrogation, the suspects admitted their involvement in the crime, revealing that their intention was to abduct the young woman in order to demand a ransom for her safe return.

They also indicated that the weapons and tools they possessed were allegedly acquired from a fellow gang member who operated under the guise of a civilian member of the Joint Task Force (JTF).

”They were arrested with a locally made pistol, two knives, a walkie-talkie, two cartridges, four handsets, one ATM card, two electric tasers, a pepper spray and some charms.

“During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, explaining that they wanted to abduct the lady in order to request for ransom.

“They also claimed that the items recovered were bought from one of their members under the disguise of civilian JTF,” he explained.

Abiodun further noted that the suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation processes and will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for comprehensive inquiry and potential prosecution.
