The Niger State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of four kidnap victims who were abducted during a violent attack in Sarkin-Pawa, Munya Local Government Area.
The daring rescue followed a series of coordinated efforts by law enforcement and local security operatives, after armed bandits stormed the villages of Hayin-Dogo and Dangunu on the night of February 20, at around 10 p.m. During the raid, five individuals, including a man identified as Usman Daina, were kidnapped at gunpoint.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, Usman Daina was released two days after the abduction. However, the four remaining victims remained in captivity as security agencies intensified their efforts to track the perpetrators and secure the hostages’ freedom.
The relentless pressure from security forces finally paid off. On May 22, around noon, the four captives, Deborah Daina, Gambo Amos, Cyprus Titus, and Satti Iko, managed to escape their abductors. Their freedom was attributed to sustained intelligence gathering and mounting pressure on the kidnappers, who were believed to be moving within the dense forest areas of Munya.

The Commissioner of Police for Niger State, CP Adamu Elleman, lauded the joint efforts of the police and other security agencies, commending their dedication and swift action. He reassured residents that the safety and security of citizens remain a top priority for the state police command, and vowed to maintain aggressive operations to rid the region of criminal elements.
This latest rescue operation underscores the resilience of security operatives in the fight against kidnapping and banditry in Niger State. As the spate of abductions continues to raise concerns across the country, successful operations like this offer hope and signal that Nigeria’s security forces are making progress in their mission to protect lives and property.
