Niger State is collaborating with the Nigeria Sugar Development Council in an attempt to revive the nation’s sugar industry.
The state through its subsidiary, Niger Foods in collaboration with the sugar council has secured a deal with Sucrotech to develop 250,000 hectres of sugar cane fields and six sugar ethanol plants in the state over the next three years.
The agreement which was sealed during a side event of G20 summit in Rio de jeneiro, Brazil, is a bold step by the state to revive the 2.5 billion sugar project, Governor Mohammed Bago has disclosed.

The governor stated that the venture will also generate 300 mw of electricity, create 100, 000 direct jobs and 250,000 indirect jobsz aside from anotner 750,000 out grower partnership.
