In the wake of a deadly herders’ attack in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area, the Dephee Peace and Community Development Initiative (DPCDI) has called on both the Taraba State and federal governments to take immediate action to support victims and restore security in the affected communities.

In a statement released on Tuesday in Jalingo, and signed by the Executive Director, Ambassador Bulus Daniel, the organisation described the attack as “a gross violation of human dignity and an assault on the fundamental rights” of the affected populations.

The group appealed for the urgent deployment of additional security forces to the area and the prompt arrest and prosecution of the attackers, noting that justice would help rebuild trust in Nigeria’s legal and security institutions.

Condemning the violence, DPCDI also advocated for the creation of sustainable, community-based security structures to help prevent further bloodshed.

“This is a critical moment that demands empathy, accountability, and responsive governance. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done,” the statement read.

It further urged the federal government to instruct the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to begin a comprehensive relief operation.

The organization emphasized the need for the immediate delivery of food, shelter, medical services, and psychological support to displaced residents.

DPCDI expressed solidarity with the victims and called on all levels of government to respond to the escalating humanitarian crisis.

Eyewitness accounts confirm that attacks on the communities of Bandawa, Munga Dosso, Munga Lelau, and Jen have left more than 40 people dead, destroyed millions of naira worth of property, and displaced numerous families.
