The Nigeria Football Federation drew public interest on Tuesday as its management and staff held an awareness walk around the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja to commemorate the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day. The procession brought together senior officials, directors, and representatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, creating a strong display of unity against corrupt practices within and beyond the sports sector.

The ICPC’s NFF Desk Officer, Mallam Abdulrahman Maigari, joined the march alongside top NFF figures including Dr. Ademola Olajire, Ms. Ruth David, Mr. Barnabas Joro, Dr. Ayo Abdulrahaman, and Hajia Amina Daura. Their presence underscored the federation’s commitment to strengthening accountability as part of its institutional culture.

During the event, Barrister Queen Otarakpo, who heads the NFF Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, said the day calls attention to the broader cost of corruption on national growth and public confidence. She noted that the unit aims to promote an environment where honesty guides daily work and where transparency is the expected standard. She added that corruption often advances in silence, and that speaking out is necessary to protect the values that hold institutions together.

Maigari highlighted the ICPC’s emphasis on enlightenment and prevention, explaining that these two pillars are just as crucial as prosecution. He commended the NFF for its consistent partnership and for taking active steps to spread awareness.

NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, praised the unit for organising the walk and for ensuring that the ICPC remains involved in its internal programmes. He noted that many people unknowingly engage in acts that fall short of ethical conduct, and said that regular sensitisation helps prevent such lapses. He also commended the ACTU for its diligence and sense of responsibility.
