Brazilian football superstar Neymar has been ruled out of this month’s crucial World Cup qualifiers due to a muscle injury, forcing the national team to turn to teenage sensation Endrick as his replacement. Neymar, who was set to make his long-awaited return to the Selecão after a 17-month absence following a knee injury against Uruguay in October 2023, now faces yet another setback.
The 33-year-old’s injury means he will miss Brazil’s high-stakes clashes against Colombia and Argentina, dealing a blow to the team’s qualification campaign. Neymar, who recently returned to his boyhood club Santos after a turbulent spell at Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, had shown glimpses of his brilliance, scoring three goals and providing three assists in seven league matches.
Despite his absence, Neymar remains a towering figure in Brazilian football history. With 128 international caps, he trails only Cafu (142) in appearances for the national team. He is also Brazil’s all-time leading scorer with 79 goals, surpassing the legendary Pelé by two goals.

Endrick, an 18-year-old rising star at Real Madrid, has been handed the opportunity to fill Neymar’s shoes. The young forward has already made 28 appearances for the Spanish giants this season, scoring six goals. His international experience is also growing, with 13 senior appearances and three goals for Brazil.
In addition to Neymar’s absence, Brazil head coach Dorival Jr has made further adjustments to the squad. Lyon goalkeeper Lucas Perri has been called up to replace Manchester City’s injured Ederson, while Flamengo’s Alex Sandro steps in for his club teammate Danilo.
