A tragic scene unfolded on Saturday when a mini truck and a commercial LT bus collided on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos. Among the 18 people involved in the accident was a newlywed couple returning to the mainland from the Ikoyi Marriage Registry.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) revealed that the collision was caused by brake failure on the LT bus, which was speeding at the time. The bus rammed into the mini truck, which was moving slowly due to mechanical issues, leading to a devastating crash that left many injured.

Sixteen passengers seated in the rear of the bus—comprising 11 women and 5 men—sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Lagos State Trauma and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway for urgent medical attention.

Two other passengers seated at the front of the bus were trapped in the wreckage, suffering critical fractures. They were rescued through a combined effort by LASTMA officials, emergency responders, and concerned citizens. These victims were later taken to Gbagada General Hospital for specialized treatment.

The Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASABUS) and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit played vital roles in evacuating the injured, ensuring prompt medical intervention.
