The Akwa Ibom State Government has officially begun the statewide implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy, effective January 1, 2026, following approval by the State Executive Council.
Governor Umo Bassey Eno announced the commencement of the policy during his New Year broadcast on Thursday, stressing that the move aligns with his administration’s drive for transparency, accountability, and responsible management of public funds.
A statement issued the same day by the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, said the governor’s declaration was in line with an earlier directive circulated on December 31, 2025, by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah. The circular instructed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), parastatals, and government-owned institutions to comply fully with the TSA framework.

Under the new arrangement, all Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) accruing to the state is to be paid directly into the designated Treasury Single Account, while government expenditures must be processed exclusively through the AkwaRemit payment platform. MDAs are also required to carry out regular reconciliation of TSA-related transactions.
The state government described the policy as a key element of its financial reform agenda, aimed at eliminating revenue leakages, promoting fiscal discipline, and enhancing the efficiency of public finance management.
Governor Eno further directed MDAs and government institutions to ensure wide dissemination of the policy and strict adherence to its provisions as implementation takes full effect.
