Manchester United’s new head coach, Ruben Amorim, is prepared for the challenges ahead as he takes the reins at Old Trafford. The 39-year-old Portuguese manager, regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young coaches, will be leaving Sporting CP after signing a contract with United through June 2027.
Amorim arrived in Manchester following a thrilling 4-2 comeback win with Sporting against Braga, marking his last match with the Portuguese side. Speaking to reporters, he expressed optimism for his new role despite the daunting task ahead: “I feel ready for the new challenge. I’m not naive – it’s going to be very different and very difficult. But now, I’m at peace and excited to start my journey with Manchester United.”

Set to debut against newly promoted Ipswich Town on November 24, Amorim faces a critical mission to lift United up the Premier League standings. Currently sitting 13th with 15 points from 11 games, United is aiming to climb back up to the top spots after a rough start under former manager Erik ten Hag. Interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy has kept the team steady with three wins and a draw across all competitions since Ten Hag’s dismissal on October 28.
Reflecting on his journey at Sporting, where he led the club to two Primeira Liga titles, Amorim acknowledged the pressure awaiting him in the Premier League: “I know it’s going to be tough to recreate the same success in England, with the different exposure and expectations. It’s been an incredible experience with Sporting, and I apologize for leaving mid-season, but I feel this is my time and my path forward.”
As Manchester United fans eagerly await Amorim’s first match, the club hopes his leadership will bring renewed energy and a return to form.
