In a decisive move to combat rising criminal activities, the newly appointed Commissioner of Police (CP) for Kano State, CP Ibrahim Bakori, has unveiled a comprehensive plan to tackle some of the state’s most pressing security challenges. The 47th Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bakori, outlined his strategy during his maiden press briefing on Wednesday, emphasizing proactive measures to address thuggery, kidnapping, drug abuse, domestic violence, and cybercrime.
CP Bakori, who recently assumed office, identified key areas of concern, including thuggery (locally known as Fadan Daba), phone snatching, kidnapping in border communities, and rampant drug abuse. He assured residents that the police command would deploy advanced strategies to curb these crimes and ensure the safety of lives and properties.
“Thuggery remains a significant threat to peace in Kano. We will implement proactive measures to prevent and respond to thuggery-related incidents, including mobile phone armed robberies,” CP Bakori stated. He also highlighted the need to address drug abuse (Kwaya), promising collaboration with stakeholders to support rehabilitation and reintegration programs for affected individuals.

The Commissioner also addressed the growing issue of domestic violence, vowing to strengthen response mechanisms to ensure victims receive timely and effective support. Additionally, he emphasized the need to tackle kidnapping, particularly in border local government areas (LGAs). “We will enhance our intelligence-gathering capabilities and work closely with local communities and neighboring states to prevent and respond to kidnapping incidents,” he said.
In a nod to the evolving nature of crime, CP Bakori highlighted the command’s commitment to tackling cybercrime. “We will diligently work with our specialized units to address cyber-related crimes, fraud, and other financial crimes. By leveraging technology and expertise, we aim to arrest and prosecute perpetrators effectively,” he explained.
To achieve these objectives, the Kano State Police Command has outlined several strategic priorities, including community policing, intelligence-led operations, collaboration with sister agencies, capacity building for officers, and enhanced border patrols. CP Bakori stressed the importance of synergy between law enforcement agencies and the public, urging residents to play an active role in maintaining peace and stability.
“All hands must be on deck to ensure peace and stability prevail in Kano State,” he said. He also called on officers to uphold professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights while discharging their duties.
Kano State, one of Nigeria’s most populous regions, has faced increasing security challenges in recent years. CP Bakori’s bold plan signals a renewed commitment to restoring safety and order. By addressing both traditional crimes like thuggery and modern threats like cybercrime, the Kano Police Command aims to create a safer environment for residents and businesses alike.
