Social media users on X have responded to the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike’s decision to revoke the plots of land allocated to 762 individuals in Abuja.

Wike’s action affects prominent figures, including former President Muhammadu Buhari, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume and Dino Malaye, owing to their failure to pay the required certificates of occupancy fees.

The revocations pertain specifically to plots located in the Maitama 1 District.

Commenters expressed skepticism about the intention behind the minister’s actions. An X user, @G2Kce on his handle suggested that the revocation serves primarily as a political gimmick designed to project an image of fairness but does little to address the underlying corruption in government dealings.

He said that “he didn’t do any of such but a way to show he’s equally revoking anyone’s land irrespective of their status.

But we all know that’s not true. It is mere propaganda to deceive many who buy into their crafts.”

@Ndubusi S Kalu criticized the strategy, arguing that it attempts to mask the injustices faced by citizens, while signaling that no one is immune to such actions, including high-ranking officials.

“All this seeming painting with a common brush is to cover up the corrupting wickedness being meted out to the people.

Too cheap a tactic! This revocation policy will never stop, like the clock’s hour hand will get to everyone, and will continue beyond the lifespan of APC,” he posted.

Also, @Abah _Attahmill said “Wike didn’t and won’t revoke land belonging to Buhari, Akume, and other top government officials. What is being done here is to tell others that if we can revoke Buhari’s, then we can take yours too without consequences.”

Other X users while highlighting the minister’s approach, which they say is aimed at showcasing accountability and distancing himself from party loyalty, may in their opinion only reinforce the narrative of political manipulation rather than genuine reform.

@Executive Boss said that “Wike’s political adviser is really doing well, especially with this public relations manipulation strategy. Trying to reshape the narrative showing Wike’s actions weren’t just against citizens but also his own political allies. Aiming to appear above party loyalty and accountable.”

@AlexMicheal01 said: “If he can do it to Buhari, Abbas and Akume, doing it to any other person won’t be any problem. This is exactly how the Nigerian ruling class through the media programmes our brain to think, unfortunately many already bought into it.”
