The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has announced the return of 147 Nigerians who voluntarily departed from Agadez in Niger Republic, with assistance from the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).
In a statement released on Wednesday, NEMA revealed that the returnees landed at Mallam the Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, around 12:48 pm on Monday, June 16.
The agency explained that the repatriation was made possible through a collaborative effort, involving the IOM and other organizations focused on migrant support and reintegration.
The agency reported that the group consisted of 143 adult males, one adult female, one male child, and two female children.

It said that upon their arrival, the returnees were taken to the Badala Hotel in Kano, for profiling and additional documentation, which continued until June 17.
NEMA also mentioned that one returnee required medical assistance upon arrival and was promptly treated by staff from the Nigerian Red Cross.
The return of the migrants, the agency added, is part of ongoing initiatives by federal authorities and international organizations to offer safe and voluntary repatriation options for citizens stranded abroad, especially in transit areas like Agadez, which is a significant point for irregular migration across the Sahel region.
