The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Zubaida Umar on Saturday announced that the agency is fully prepared to respond promptly and effectively to emergencies during the holiday season and beyond.
NEMA urged the public to stay vigilant about safety during the celebrations, advising drivers to refrain from speeding, follow traffic laws, and be cautious on roads, waterways, at public events, and in neighborhoods.
In a statement released by the agency, the unveiling of the emergency response lines were made known as Umar led staff of the agency in a fitness exercise in Abuja.
The exercise, which included a five-kilometer walk, is aimed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and readiness among staff, aligning with the agency’s role as a key emergency coordination body.
At the conclusion of the exercise, Umar expressed her satisfaction with the fitness levels, discipline, and operational readiness of NEMA personnel, highlighting that physical preparedness is essential for effective emergency response, especially during times of increased human and vehicle activity.

She assured Nigerians that NEMA has activated its preparedness protocols nationwide and is collaborating closely with relevant stakeholders, including security agencies and emergency responders, to ensure a swift response to any emergencies that may arise during the festive season.
The director general reiterated NEMA’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing that the agency is on standby at its zonal, territorial, and state operations offices to facilitate timely responses to emergencies during the holiday season and beyond.
Additionally, Air Commodore Bature Usman, the Director of Search and Rescue at NEMA, explained that the fitness exercise is a regular activity aimed at keeping personnel physically and mentally ready for emergency response operations at all times.
The exercise also involved key stakeholders from the military, police the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), highlighting the importance of inter-agency collaboration in effective disaster response.
