The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, has kicked off a major distribution of relief materials to victims of the June 2025 flood disaster, which ravaged eight Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Lagos State. The affected LGAs include Alimosho, Ojo, Agege, Eti-Osa, Kosofe, Ikeja, Oshodi, and Ikorodu.
The official flag-off of the humanitarian effort took place at the Oniru Waterfront in Eti-Osa LGA, drawing support from key partners such as the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture, and the Eti-Osa Local Government Authority. The collaborative effort signals a united front in tackling the aftermath of one of the worst flooding incidents in the state’s recent history.
Mr. Afunku Azeez, representing the Head of NEMA Lagos Operations Office, conveyed a message of hope and solidarity on behalf of the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar. In her remarks, Umar extended the Federal Government’s heartfelt condolences to affected families, describing the flood’s impact as “devastating,” with millions of naira worth of properties lost and countless lives disrupted.
Highlighting the significance of multi-agency collaboration, the NEMA DG praised the synergy between federal and state institutions, especially the pivotal role played by LASEMA in damage control, emergency response, and recovery coordination. She emphasized that the distribution exercise was part of a broader national strategy to bolster resilience and improve disaster preparedness in flood-prone areas.
