Ned Nwoko alleges coordinated plot to tarnish his image, says Wife’s situation being exploited

The Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has accused what he described as a “syndicate of pull-down-Ned group” of launching a coordinated campaign to destroy his reputation by exploiting his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels’ alleged marital issues.

In a statement released by the Communication and Technical Action Team from his office and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, Nwoko said certain individuals had for years targeted him and were now using Regina’s personal struggles to criminalise him before the international community.

The senator dismissed rumours that he had illegally acquired land in his hometown, calling them “false and unfortunate.” According to him, the land was legally allocated to him for the establishment of the University of Sports, a project that is already functional and beneficial to the community. He lamented what he described as a pattern of hostility toward successful individuals in society, stating that “anyone who seeks progress in our society is often attacked and torn down by their own people.”

Nwoko further alleged that some persons were “exploiting a young woman who is unwell and has admitted to using drugs.” He warned that those spreading defamatory statements about him would soon face justice. “The facts are there,” he said. “Anyone taking advantage of her present condition to settle old scores will have to prove their claims in court.”

The lawmaker revealed that Regina Daniels had a history of substance use prior to their marriage, a condition he said was medically documented. He claimed her former schoolmates had also confirmed her past struggles with drug use and bipolar medication. “Her medical records are verifiable,” he added, accusing his detractors of manipulating her story to damage his public image.

On the controversy surrounding Regina’s age at the time of their marriage, Nwoko clarified that she was born on October 10, 2000, and was 19 years old when they married, not 17 as widely reported. He noted that the marriage was conducted openly, with the consent of her family.

“Our traditions do not frown upon polygamy,” the senator said. “I married her properly, gave her a name, and treated her with dignity. Beyond social media, my life revolved around Regina. I cared for her deeply, and everyone who knows me can testify to that.”

Nwoko described the ongoing reports as part of a “witch-hunt” orchestrated by his political opponents, claiming that his decision to marry Regina has been turned into a weapon for blackmail. “This smear campaign is a desperate attempt to undermine my achievements and distract from my duties as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he stated.

He reaffirmed his commitment to development projects in Delta State and vowed not to be deterred by what he called “malicious fabrications” circulating online.
