Excitement is building as the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) officially inaugurates the organizing committee for the highly anticipated Niger Delta Sports Festival, set to take center stage from April 1st to 5th, 2025, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
With a vision to reignite the region’s dominance in Nigerian sports, Hon. Alabo Boma Iyaye, NDDC’s Executive Director of Finance and Administration, charged the committee with delivering a world-class festival that will showcase the region’s best talents. “The Niger Delta has a rich history of producing legendary athletes who have brought glory to Nigeria, yet for too long, a gap in talent development has held us back. This festival marks a turning point—one that will reclaim our legacy and inspire a new generation,” he declared.

Hon. Daniel Igali, Bayelsa State’s Commissioner of Sports and a representative of the nine sports commissioners in the NDDC’s mandate states, hailed the festival as a game-changer. “For the first time in Nigeria’s history, we are witnessing a regional sports festival that will not only elevate sports but also serve as a powerful tool for youth empowerment and crime reduction. This is a historic moment,” he stated.
Among the key figures leading this transformative event are Daniel Igali, Chairman of the Niger Delta Sports Stakeholders Forum; Alabo Boma Iyaye, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC); and Sir Itiako Ikpokpo Ksm, Chairman of Dunamis Icon Limited and Project Consultant for the festival.
As part of NDDC’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the Niger Delta Sports Festival is poised to become a landmark event, fueling national conversations around sports development, regional unity, and youth empowerment. With the countdown officially underway, all eyes are on Uyo for what promises to be an electrifying festival of talent, competition, and regional pride.
