The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has announced that it has shortlisted 286,697 candidates who applied for its recruitment exercise, which was officially advertised on Friday, December 27, 2024.

This marks the NCS’s first use of an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) following the application phase.

The NCS provided an update on its recruitment process, which began with a public announcement in national newspapers.

To enhance its workforce and improve service delivery, the NCS has declared a total of 3,927 vacancies across various positions, including Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant roles.

During the initial phase of the recruitment, the NCS received 573,523 applications.

After thorough documentation review, 286,697 candidates were selected to move forward to the next stage.

The second phase of the recruitment, set to occur from September 14 to 21, 2025, will utilize an online CBT format, demonstrating the NCS’s commitment to a transparent, accessible, and fair selection process.

Shortlisted candidates can take the test from any location with reliable internet access. However, it is essential to use a laptop or desktop computer with a webcam and full-screen capability, as mobile devices are not supported.

Candidates will undergo a facial verification process during login, so they are encouraged to present themselves neatly to facilitate recognition.

The CBT application is sensitive to noise and movement, requiring candidates to remain focused throughout the test. Excessive movement, whispering, or background noise may trigger an automatic logout from the system.

Additionally, candidates are advised to refrain from switching between windows during the test, as this behavior will be considered malpractice and could lead to disqualification.

To assist those shortlisted, the NCS has organized a mandatory pre-test session two days prior to the actual CBT. This session will help candidates become familiar with the testing application. Two separate links will be sent to all shortlisted candidates—one for the pre-test and another for the actual examination.

Candidates applying for the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) should be aware that they will be invited for an additional CBT in the next recruitment phase, a provision that does not apply to the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant positions.

The Nigeria Customs Service assures all stakeholders that the recruitment process is strictly merit-based and transparent. Successful candidates will be duly notified.
