Marcus Morris Sr. made his first court appearance in Florida following his arrest over the weekend, but the proceedings did not favour the NBA star.
The 35-year-old has been held in Broward County since Sunday due to allegations of failing to pay a casino in Las Vegas.
During a hearing on Tuesday, Morris’s attorneys requested bail to help him address the situation.
The lawyers informed the judge that Morris was in the process of settling his debts in Nevada and that releasing him would facilitate that process.
However, the judge denied the bail request, stating she would only release him to Nevada authorities for extradition or if the arrest warrants against him were rescinded.
Morris, dressed in a jail-issued jumpsuit and wearing handcuffs, remained silent throughout the hearing.

His brother, former NBA champion Markieff Morris, was present in the courtroom to provide support.
Another hearing for Morris is scheduled for late August, but it is evident that the basketball player and his team are eager to resolve the matter before then.
As previously reported, Morris was arrested at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and charged with fraud related to an insufficient funds check.
The Morris brothers’ agent, Yony Noy, stated on X that the situation arose from “an outstanding marker with a casino.”
