The navy has announced a major operational success following the neutralisation of an improvised explosive device manufacturing cell linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Imo State.
In a statement issued on March 29, 2026, the navy disclosed that the operation was carried out by personnel of the Naval Base Oguta Tactical Patrol Squadron in collaboration with other security agencies.
The clearance mission targeted suspected hideouts in Orsu Local Government Area, particularly along the Orsu–Ihiteukwa axis, including the Mother Valley area.
The statement was signed by Abiodun Folorunsho, Director of Naval Information.
According to the statement, troops encountered multiple IEDs during the operation, confirming the existence of an active bomb-making network in the area. Further exploitation led to the discovery of an IED fabrication site.
Naval forces subsequently executed a coordinated ambush at the facility, neutralising two suspected IED specialists.
All recovered explosives, it said, were safely detonated at the scene, eliminating potential threats to both civilians and security personnel.
