The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Iddi Abbas, reiterated his commitment to advancing the quality of medical care provided to Navy personnel.
He emphasized this commitment during a courtesy visit from the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Defence Health Maintenance Limited, Surgeon Rear Admiral Azeez Afolayan (rtd), which took place at Naval Headquarters on February 10, 2026.
Vice Admiral Abbas outlined the various ongoing initiatives aimed at upgrading medical equipment and facilities in naval hospitals situated across the country.
He underscored the importance of maintaining a healthy and fit naval force, considering it vital for operational readiness, effectiveness in missions, and the broader scope of national security.

Rear Admiral Afolayan congratulated the Chief on his appointment, detailed the role of Defence Health Maintenance Limited as the primary health insurance administrator for the Armed Forces of Nigeria, and proposed strengthened collaboration between the Navy and Defence Health Maintenance Limited.
The partnership is intended to improve access to affordable, high-quality healthcare services for naval personnel and their families, ensuring they receive comprehensive medical support now and in the future.
