The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbass, has appealed to residents of Taraba State and Nigerians to maintain strong collaboration with the navy and other security agencies in addressing the country’s security challenges.

The call was made during the commissioning of a special intervention quick impact project dedicated to Rear Admiral Enoch Kwetishe at Kumbai community in the Yangtu Development Area of Taraba State.

Represented by the Chief of Administration at the Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Jonathan Mamman, Vice Admiral Abbass said the newly renovated project, comprising three classroom blocks, furniture, and other learning facilities, would significantly benefit Kumbai and the surrounding communities.

He explained that the project forms part of the navy’s civil-military cooperation programme, which seeks to strengthen ties between the armed forces and local communities while supporting national development and security goals.

According to him, the initiative reflects the navy’s commitment to building trust with the public and contributing to grassroots development, in line with the federal government’s broader development agenda.

“These projects also provide an opportunity to honour distinguished senior officers, while reaffirming our dedication to serving the nation beyond security operations,” he said.

Rear Admiral Mamman praised Rear Admiral Kwetishe for giving back to his community through educational development, describing the gesture as a demonstration of compassion and leadership.

He urged residents to protect and make good use of the facilities.

“We call on the people of Taraba State and Nigerians at large to continue supporting the navy, the Armed Forces, and other security agencies as we work together to safeguard our collective interests,” he added.

In his remarks, Rear Admiral Kwetishe expressed deep emotion as he reflected on his time at the school, noting that the project was inspired by his desire to give back to his alma mater and community.

He said his motivation was rooted in gratitude and a sense of duty, adding that he would do more to improve access to social amenities if given another opportunity.

Also speaking, Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, represented by Dr. Mark Useni, commended Kwetishe for prioritising education and encouraged other leaders to emulate his commitment to community development.
