National Youth Games: We will produce better athletes like Ofili – Oborewori

Delta State Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborewori has expressed optimism that the ongoing 8th National Youth Games hosted by the state will produced athletes that will better the likes of Favour Ofili.

Oborewori spoke in a chat with journalists shortly after inspecting sports facilities at the Steven Keshi Stadium, Asaba, venue of the event.

According to Oborewori the event which is the second in a row being hosted by the state would amongst other things discover athletes that would be groomed to represent the country in future sports events.

The governor who was conducted round the facilities by the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Chief Solomon Ogba, disclosed that a total of 5776 athletes were registered for the event with 29 states representatives already arrived the state for the event.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the preparation so far put in place by the Local Organizing Committee of the state ahead of the opening ceremony scheduled to hold on 12th September, 2024.

He said, “This event is like a breeding ground for future athletes. You see Favour Ofili, in the last Olympics she did very well even though she did not win any medal. She still did well. We are not only going to discover people like Ofili, we will discover athletes that will be more better than Ofili.

“This event is going to be an improvement on the last one. We are supposed to improve and that is what we have done. I’m satisfied with what the committee has done, it can only get better.”
