The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kwara has issued a warning to the public about fake money being circulated in the state.
In a statement made in Ilorin, the State Director of NOA, Alhaji Abdulganiyu Dare, urged everyone to be extra careful when handling cash.
According to reports, there are groups of people trying to trick residents by distributing counterfeit money with specific batch numbers.
Dare pointed out that these fake notes can be spotted easily, as they often have blurry images, unclear watermarks, and other features that don’t seem quite right.
He stressed that people should be especially cautious when dealing with large amounts of money.
“The criminals often take advantage of busy times in local markets to pass off these fake bills,” he explained. “They particularly target unsuspecting shop owners and payment service operators, cheating them out of their hard-earned money.”

The NOA is dedicated to educating the public about the risks associated with fake currency and the importance of checking the money they receive.
Dare described counterfeiting as harmful to Nigeria’s economy and stated that the NOA is collaborating with law enforcement to catch those responsible.
He encouraged residents to report any suspicious activities or individuals to the authorities right away.
“By working together, we can create a safer financial environment for everyone in Kwara. The NOA and the community can help stop the spread of fake money and protect the financial well-being of all residents,” he said.
