Nasarawa State is seeking to replicate the success story of the Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund in the state.

To this end, the state government has dispatched a delegation, led by Abubakar Idris-Adamu, the special adviser on education to the Nasarawa State governor, to Bayelsa State to study the implementation of the scheme.

Speaking on Wednesday after embarking on a study tour of trust fund projects, Idris-Adamu commended the Bayelsa agency for its innovative and impactful contributions to education.

He said the delegation is in the state to learn the ropes to guide its newly established version in Nasarawa State.
Idris-Adamu explained that more than 70 percent of the inputs on the law establishing the fund in Nassarawa came from Bayelsa State.

“We are extremely grateful to the Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund for the inspiration and for opening its doors to us and providing mentorship.

“And this trip to public secondary schools and the state university will further provide us with the guide to drive our own fund in Nassarawa, and from what we saw, the impact is very impressive.

“We learnt about Bayelsa EDTF through extensive media reports of its activities while researching on how to go about improving educational outcomes in our own state of Nasarawa,” Idris-Adamu said.

The delegation visited the Swali Technical School, Okaka Technical School, Kaiama Grammar School, Ijaw National Academy, and the University of Africa, Toru-Orua.
At the University of Africa, Toru-Orua, the delegation and officials of Bayelsa trust fund were received by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Soloman Ebobrah and principal officials of the state-owned university.

Prof. Ebobrah praised the efforts of the education trust fund in supporting research programmes of the institution as the institution clinched five out of the nine research grants endowed by the trust fund.
The vice chancellor noted that the support provided by the fund cuts across infrastructure projects, like the computer-based test centre, and laboratory equipment, among others.

Acting Chairman of the trust fund, Prof Francis Sikoki, noted that the fund was delighted that its modest efforts were attracting recognition and attention at the national level.
The trust fund was set up by the ex-Governor of the state, Sen. Seriake Dickson, eight years ago.
