Operatives of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) have uncovered a baby factory in the Ushafa, a settlement in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), rescuing nine pregnant girls in the process.
The victims, who were confined in a rented apartment within a sprawling estate, were reportedly recruited by a yet-to-be-identified human trafficking agent through an online platform.
Vincent Adekoye, National Press Officer of NAPTIP, said the rescue operation followed a tip-off from a concerned citizen who observed suspicious movements and activities around the estate.
Acting swiftly, operatives raided the baby factory, freeing the girls and shutting down the premises.

“The victims were locked up in the apartment and kept under surveillance by the suspected trafficker,” a NAPTIP official disclosed.
“We commend the vigilance of the citizen who raised the alarm and facilitated this rescue,” he added.
The agency is currently investigating the incident to identify and apprehend the trafficking syndicate behind the operation.
The rescued girls are receiving medical care and counseling at a NAPTIP facility.
