In a major move to protect public health, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has destroyed harmful products worth a staggering N10 billion in Gombe State. The dangerous items, including food, drugs, and other regulated goods, were seized from six states in Nigeria’s North East region: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Taraba, Gombe, and Yobe.
The massive destruction operation highlights NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to rid Nigerian markets of unsafe, substandard products. According to NAFDAC’s Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, who was represented by the Zonal Director, Mr. Kenneth Azukwe, the agency is fully committed to safeguarding Nigerians by enforcing strict regulations that ensure only safe, high-quality goods reach consumers.
“NAFDAC stands at the forefront of public health protection, implementing strict standards that are recognized both nationally and globally,” Adeyeye said, reinforcing the agency’s mission to eliminate dangerous products from circulation.

Among the destroyed items were expired food, falsified drugs, medical devices, and contaminated packaged water. Some of these products were voluntarily surrendered by businesses, as revealed by NAFDAC’s Gombe State Coordinator, Mr. James Agada.
Gombe State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, praised NAFDAC’s efforts, noting that the agency’s stringent regulatory measures are crucial in preventing the spread of diseases and ensuring the health of the population.
NAFDAC has vowed to continue intensifying market surveillance and cracking down on violators who endanger public safety, sending a strong message to those attempting to profit from unsafe goods.
