The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced an investigation into reports that a military airstrike carried out on Saturday, April 11, 2026, may have affected a local market in Jilli, leading to civilian casualties.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the air force views allegations of civilian harm with “utmost seriousness and empathy,” stressing that the protection of innocent lives remains a core priority in all its operations.
According to him, the chief of the air staff has ordered the immediate deployment of the Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation Cell (CHAI-Cell) to the affected area to undertake a comprehensive fact-finding mission.
“The Nigerian Air Force has taken note of reports alleging that an airstrike may have impacted a local market in Jilli, resulting in civilian casualties.
“In line with our commitment to accountability, the CHAI-Cell has been activated to proceed to the location and ascertain the facts,” the statement read.
