A mysterious fire has killed two kids of the same parents aged 3 and 6 years in Udo Imuk street, Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom state.
The sad incident which occurred at about 7:00 pm on Friday 30 December 2022 has caused panic and grief among residents of the area and the entire community.
Our Correspondent gathered that the kids were locked inside a one-room apartment by both parents who went out to buy some items expecting to return home shortly.
But neighbours said they had no idea that the kids were inside the room when it was noticed that fire had razed down the room.
The cause of the inferno could not be ascertained at press time, even though newsmen who visited the scene on Saturday morning, gathered that there were no electrical connections, no candle or gas cylinder in the affected room.
According to the father of kids Prince Ekpo who hail from Nsit Ubium Local Government said, “I left the phone in the room to give light in the room for the children hoping to return soon after the injection, my wife earlier went out to buy something”.

“I came back and saw a crowd around my house and discovered my two children has been burnt to death and we don’t know the source of the fire”.
However, the landlords of the building, Bright and Godwin Peter Udo Imuk, while speaking with newsmen said the source of the fire was unknown to them.
“We didn’t notice when the fire started, we only heard an explosive sound and while going to check, the fire had gutted the room and spread to our rooms and parlor, we tried to remove our properties, but serious damages had been done already.
We called for help to quench the fire and I told my brother that children were inside the room and before we could rescue them the children have been roasted and our properties damaged”.
The fire incident affected adjoining rooms, destroying properties and the roof.
