Over 200 final-year students of the Mumuye ethnic group in Taraba State are celebrating the disbursement of education grants worth millions of Naira, a lifeline to aid their academic journey and final-year projects. The grants, initiated by the Taraba State government, aim to alleviate financial burdens and promote educational advancement among the Mumuye community.
Speaking during the official launch of the program titled “Project Support/Assistance to Final-Year Mumuye Students Across Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria”, Taraba State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, underscored the government’s dedication to fostering education and inclusivity.
“This initiative reflects our unwavering commitment to providing equal opportunities for all and advancing the state’s education sector,” Deputy Governor Alkali stated.
He emphasized the alignment of this initiative with the state government’s “Five Fingers Agenda”, championed by Governor Agbu Kefas, which prioritizes education, youth empowerment, and community development.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude for the financial aid, describing it as transformative in enabling them to complete their academic projects, defend them successfully, and secure a brighter future.
One recipient remarked, “This grant is a game-changer. It has eased the financial challenges that could have hindered my academic journey. I am truly grateful.”

The National President of the Mumuye Cultural Development Association Youth Wing (MCDAYW), Ezekiel Augustine, also hailed the initiative, noting that Mumuye youths in the state and diaspora are fully committed to collaborating with the government to drive progress in Taraba.
Augustine appealed to the state government to extend similar grants to Mumuye students studying abroad to ensure inclusive support for all.
The grants benefited students from prominent institutions, including; Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, University of Jos (UNIJOS), University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID), Taraba State University (TSU), Federal University Wukari (FUW) and Federal Polytechnic Bali
This landmark program demonstrates the Taraba government’s resolve to empower its youth and strengthen the educational foundation of the Mumuye community.
Deputy Governor Alkali urged the beneficiaries to utilize the funds effectively, particularly in completing and defending their final-year projects. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to free and compulsory education in the state, urging other communities to follow suit in investing in their future generations.
The initiative is seen as a critical milestone by Mumuye stakeholders in the broader mission to empower their youths and secure a prosperous future for the community.
