The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) has called on the authorities to urgently investigate and, if necessary, prosecute an individual identified as Alex Barbir over a viral video allegedly inciting violence in Plateau State.

In a press statement released Wednesday, MPAC expressed concern over the circulation of the video, which it says appears to show Barbir promoting hate speech and encouraging violence against Muslims and other minority groups.

The organization noted, however, that it has not independently verified the authenticity of the footage.

Despite this uncertainty, MPAC warned that the content, if genuine could exacerbate tensions in already volatile areas, potentially leading to further loss of life and destruction of property.

“We demand that the relevant authorities act swiftly to investigate this matter and bring anyone found culpable to justice,” the statement said.

The group described the alleged actions as a serious threat to national unity, arguing that such rhetoric could embolden individuals to take the law into their own hands.

It also raised concerns about what it termed “double standards” in handling cases of incitement, suggesting that similar actions abroad might attract more immediate consequences.

MPAC further urged intelligence and security agencies to take proactive steps to prevent escalation and to safeguard vulnerable communities.

It added that if the video is ultimately found to be fabricated, those responsible for its creation and dissemination should also face legal action.

The statement was signed by Disu Kamor, Executive Chairman of MPAC, who reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to peace, justice, and national stability.
