Traditional rulers under the aegis of Afe Nkuku Annang Traditional Council in the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State have issued a stern warning to Mrs. Pat Akpabio, the wife of Senator Godswill Akpabio’s brother, over a viral video in which she allegedly insulted and mocked the Senate President.

In the controversial podcast circulating on various social media platforms, Mrs. Akpabio is seen verbally attacking the Senate President with derogatory comments and threats.

The video has drawn widespread condemnation across the Annang ethnic group, prompting traditional leaders to act.

Reacting to the incident, the apex traditional council Afe Nkuku Annang described the video as a public embarrassment and issued a traditional injunction against Pat Akpabio, warning her to desist from further social media attacks or face severe traditional consequences.

Led by Okuku Nsima Bassey Udo Umo Mboho Adiainyang, the council visited her hometown of Nkwot Edem Edet in Ikono Local Government Area, delivering traditional symbols of warning: a palm frond (ayei) and bamboo bark (ndukpat)—both significant in Annang culture as symbols of taboo and caution.

“Senator Akpabio is our illustrious son in whom we are well pleased. He is supposed to be respected everywhere not to be insulted by his brother’s wife.

“We decided to visit Pat Akpabio’s village after hearing all the insults against the Senate President and warn her to stop insulting Senator Akpabio. We are very angry for all the abuses and curses she rained on the Senate President in the social media”

“When we married her, we expected that she should be humble enough to attract blessing to herself and her people, but look at the road leading to her village now in a very deplorable condition.

“If she was respectful to her in-laws and Annang, I believe the senate president would have constructed this road” Okuku Adiainyang said.

He further criticized her self-proclaimed title as “Princess of Ettefia deity,” dismissing it as being false.

“In the video, Pat Akpabio had awarded herself a false title of “Princess of Ettefia” deity which we know that it is not true. Can she worship a deity and sacrifice more than us?” They queried.

The Afe Nkuku Annang Council has reaffirmed that any further public disrespect toward Senator Akpabio would not be tolerated and could result in traditional sanctions being imposed on Pat Akpabio.

“Please warn her immediately before we sanction her in Annang land and the consequences will be unbeatable to her.”

In a separate but related development, the Obonganwan Ikpaisong Annang, Ekatte Peter John Ibanga, condemned the insults and warned that Annang women could soon stage a traditional protest.

According to her, women may sit naked on the floor to curse Pat Akpabio in line with traditional punitive rites if she doesn’t stop the insult

“Annang women will walk naked and return all the curses to Pat Akpabio, we are women and we don’t like what Pat Akpabio is doing.”

” Women will soon summon Pat Akpabio to appear before us for explanation on this issue, particularly insulting the clan head of Afaha Obong Clan in Abak local government area” they said.

Receiving the traditional warning symbols, the Village Head of Nkwot Edem Edet, Etteidung, appealed for calm and asked for time to personally intervene in the matter.

He said “please don’t pay evil for evil. Allow me to wade into the matter, I will call Pat who is our daughter to order.

“If she has behaved well, the road leading to this community would have been constructed by now. We are sorry , please apologise to Senator Akpabio on our behalf.”
