An Ikorodu High Court has ordered three independent DNA tests to be conducted outside Nigeria to conclusively determine the paternity of Liam, the son of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
The ruling follows months of legal battle and public tension between Mohbad’s family and his widow, Wunmi, after repeated efforts to carry out a DNA test locally were stalled by procedural and technical challenges.
At the latest court sitting, Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, appeared alongside his legal counsel, Barrister Oladayo Ogungbe, who disclosed that earlier attempts at DNA testing were frustrated by concerns over the credibility and suitability of the proposed facilities. To eliminate all doubts and prevent further controversy, the court directed that the tests be carried out in three separate, reputable laboratories abroad.
Under the arrangement approved by the court, each party will nominate one foreign laboratory, while the court itself will select the third. The DNA tests will be conducted using tissue samples, and the results must independently reach the same conclusion before they can be accepted as valid.

Ogungbe explained that the decision reflects a commitment to transparency and fairness, stressing that all parties will be present during the collection of samples to rule out any possibility of manipulation. He added that Joseph Aloba will not bear the financial burden of the tests, reinforcing the family’s claim that their demand for DNA verification is driven solely by the desire for clarity.
“The three results must agree. That has always been our position. This process shows clearly that there is nothing to hide,” Ogungbe said.
Joseph Aloba welcomed the court’s ruling and raised no objections to the process, expressing confidence that the outcome would finally put lingering questions to rest. While Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi, has consistently maintained that Liam is the biological son of the late singer, his father has remained firm that a DNA test is necessary to resolve all doubts surrounding the child’s paternity.
The court’s directive is widely seen as a decisive step toward ending one of the most emotionally charged disputes following Mohbad’s death, a case that has continued to draw intense public attention across Nigeria and beyond.
