The immediate past Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and a frontline Labour Party (LP) governorship aspirant in the 2025 Anambra State governorship election, George Moghalu, has expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in the state.

Moghalu described the recent killings, including the murder of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo, as saddening and heartbreaking.

He criticised the state Governor, Chukwuma Soludo’s handling of the situation, stating that the governor seems unperturbed by the rising insecurity.

In a press statement on Saturday, Moghalu also condemned the kidnapping of retired Anglican Archbishop, Most Reverend Godwin Okpala and member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Justice Azuka.

He called for immediate action to combat insecurity, emphasising that the current situation is unacceptable.

He said, that “I am deeply concerned about the escalating insecurity in our beloved state. The recent killings, including the murder of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Tobias Okonkwo, are saddening and heartbreaking.

“I strongly criticise Governor Soludo’s handling of the security situation, as he seems unperturbed by the rising insecurity or has he lost ideas?

“The kidnapping of retired Anglican Archbishop, Most Reverend Godwin Okpala and member of Anambra State House of Assembly, Justice Azuka is unacceptable.

“As a leader, I believe it is our responsibility to ensure the safety and security of our citizens. I urge the security agents to intensify their efforts to rescue the kidnapped victims and ensure the safety of all citizens.

“I extend my condolences to the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Jonas Benson Okoye, and sympathise with the families of the victims.”
