Miscreants at the popular Koka Roundabout, Asaba, clashed with members of the Delta State Environmental Taskforce, when the hoodlums resisted attempts by the state government to eject unauthorized persons from the Koka Roundabout.
Chairman of the taskforce, Godspower Asiuwhu, said his team backed by armed security agents had stormed the Koka Roundabout to remove miscreants, illegal occupants and drug dealers from the area when the taskforce members were attacked by suspected dwellers and owners of shanties, and other illegal structures.
Chief Asiuwhu stated that the raid was part of a broader initiative to enhance security and cleanliness in the Koka axis, which has become known as a gathering spot for drug users and dealers.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to revitalize urban areas and enforce strict environmental standards throughout the state.
Asiuwhu said that members of the taskforce encountered stiff resistance as they attempted to dismantle makeshift hideouts and confiscate drugs stockpiled in various locations around the Koka Interchange.

“Despite the resistance, some of the miscreants were forced to abandon their belongings, including stashes of hard drugs, which were later turned over to law- enforcement agencies.
“While the raid initially proved successful during the day, events almost turned bloody between the hours of 7pm to 9pm as some hoodlums mobilised to confront security operatives stationed at the roundabout to prevent the return of the illegal occupants returning to their demolished abode,” the taskforce chairman added.
Sources said that the hoodlums attacked the security agents, throwing stones and other missiles at them, prompting the security agents to respond by calling for back up and firing tear gas and gunshots into the air to disperse the miscreants.
Howeverz Asiuwhu maintained that the taskforce remains undeterred, asserting that team will proceed with plans to conduct regular monitoring and raids on suspected areas where illegal activities are comducted.
