The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has assured that power supply will soon be normalised within 24 to 48 hours after a recent decline caused by disruptions in gas supply.
This decline was triggered by an explosion on the Escravos-Lagos Gas Pipeline and acts of vandalism targeting gas facilities in the Niger Delta, which affected gas supply to multiple thermal power plants and led to a nationwide reduction in power generation.
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed that the incident resulted in a significant decrease in available power generation, as many gas-powered stations experienced low output, leading to power shortages for consumers.
NISO stated that repair work is currently being conducted by the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, with full restoration anticipated within 24 to 48 hours.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, the minister acknowledged the difficulties faced by households and businesses.
“The Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that electricity supply will be quickly restored following the recent decline due to a temporary shortfall. The situation is expected to be resolved within the next 24 to 48 hours,” the statement indicated.
The minister reiterated the assurance during a stakeholders’ meeting on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in Abuja, which included representatives from NISO, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, power generation and distribution companies, and the Ministry of Power.
He emphasized the urgency of restoring supply due to the increased demand during the holiday season and instructed relevant agencies to accelerate their efforts to meet the restoration timeline, while also urging Nigerians to be patient as the supply stabilizes.
