Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of Arise Television anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, describing her death as a “grievous loss” to the media community and the nation.
In a condolence letter to Arise News Chairman, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, Idris said the federal tovernment received the news of the journalist’s death with shock, noting that the 29-year-old broadcaster was “a vibrant and dedicated news anchor, consummate lawyer, and a model of professionalism whose work resonated with audiences across Nigeria and beyond.”
The minister condemned the “heinous incident that cut down a promising young journalist in her prime,” stressing that the tragedy had robbed the Nigerian media fraternity of one of its brightest prospects.

Idris assured that a swift investigation would be carried out to unravel the circumstances surrounding her death, which occurred during an armed robbery at her Katampe, Abuja residence on Monday, September 29, 2025.
He extended condolences to Maduagwu’s family, colleagues, and the entire Arise News team, praying that God grant them the strength to bear the loss.
