Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has stepped into public service following her appointment as special adviser on public engagement and advocacy in Edo State.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor, on behalf of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Johnson-Okojie’s appointment signals a new phase in her career, transitioning from film and philanthropy into governance and civic advocacy.
The state government said her strong public appeal and grassroots influence are expected to enhance communication between the government and citizens, while promoting policies and programmes more effectively.
With a career spanning nearly two decades, the actress has featured in over 200 films and built a reputation as one of Nollywood’s most recognisable figures.

Beyond entertainment, she runs the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which focuses on women’s empowerment, child welfare, education and healthcare outreach.
Her involvement in public service also complements the political engagement of her husband, Odianosen Okogie, who represents Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
The Edo State government expressed confidence that Johnson-Okojie will leverage her influence, advocacy experience and widespread public support to strengthen civic participation and deepen community engagement across the state.
