A 15-year old girl from Ebonyi State, Lilian Udeh who made her debut in the Nigeria Women’s National Team has won the Player of the Match award in the ongoing NCF Women’s T20I Tournament at TBS Cricket Oval, Lagos
She is a rising star in the game of cricket and the fastest growing female Cricketer in Nigeria.
Within a space of 12 months, Lilian Udeh representing Ebonyi State in the South East secondary school event was selected to represent South East in the National U17 Cricket Championship powered by PwC.
The promising cricketer, who also, was invited among 35 other players to the national women’s team camp in Benin, scaled through the screening exercise to make the final 14-man list needed for the six-nation T20I tournament.
According to a report sent to The Trumpet by the federation, the promising female cricketer, proving her worth in the game, was capped and featured in the first eleven (11) that played the match between Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
Apart from making a remarkable appearance and getting a wicket in her debut against Sierra Leone, Lilian in the second match against Gambia got 2 maiden wickets in 2 overs to win the player of the match award.
Lilian Udeh is indeed a rising star in the noble game of cricket that promotes values. Another significant factor surrounding her emergence is that she is also from the non-conventional cricket-playing states that have produced stars that represented the country. This speaks volumes of the level of grassroots development of cricket in Nigeria.
However, Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) appreciates all sponsors including Access Bank for making the event fruitful and for driving the goal of the federation geared towards empowering the female gender by connecting with the broader African communities.
