Former world number 2 Daniil Medvedev has leapfrogged Novak Djokovic on the ATP ranking two weeks before the start of Wimbledon to become the new world number one in the ATP ranking.
Medvedev, barred from competing in the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) tournament following the military invasion of Ukraine by Russia, will still retain the number one position because of the reduction in the rating of the tournament by WTA and ATP. The Trumpet Gathered
Serbian Djokovic is the defending champion of Wimbledon but his involvement in the tourney will be of no positive significance to his rating following the sanction by the world tennis governing bodies over AELTC’s decision to bar Belarusians and Russians from Wimbledon.
Invariably, the sanction means the 26 years old Russian will increase his lead points over Djokovic, who is presently third after Alexander Zverev in the ATP ranking.

More so, French Open champion and 22 Grand Slams winner Rafael Nadal, recovering from treatment on a chronic foot injury has pipped a step higher to become the world number four.
However, Nadal’s challenger in the final of the French Open, Norwegian Casper Ruud, has reached his highest career position on the ATP ranking on 5th after the French Open champion and Spaniard moved to fourth.
