…Nadal progresses to round of 16
World number one Daniil Medvedev has lost out at Indian Wells after French Gael Monfils won 6-4 3-6 6-1 to see off the Russian in the round of 32. Medvedev, who was recently crowned world number one after Serbian Novak Djokovic lost to Cech Jiri Vesely in Dubai Duty Free Championship, will have to lose his ATP position to second ranked Swiss Roger Federer.
The Russian, yet to complete a month as world number one, was defeated in the first and the third sets to give room for a review of his ATP world ranking The Trumpet gathered.
However, the elated Monfils, after his triumph in the round of 32 to face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, said that he is a contender in the tournament who is ready to face any contestant.
He acknowledged that the defeat of Medvedev is one of his rare achievements after such a long time and
winning a game against a highly ranked tennis figure is worth celebrating another contest, world number four Rafael Nadal defeated British Dan Evans 7-5 6-3 to reach the round of 16.

The Spaniard, who is on superb form in 2022 without any game lost, proved too strong for the ATP 27-ranked player to contend with. According to Evans, Nadal did not give him the chance to take dominance
of the game as the 21 Grand Slam winner played tough to render his efforts inconsequential.
Furthermore, he praised his performance in the contest despite the terrible outcome which Nadal affirmed in his statement. Nadal said, “I think the match at the beginning was difficult. He put me under pressure going to the net. It was not easy to put him in tough positions. I hit a couple of important passing shots at important moments.
