Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to partnering with the media as a key driver of good governance and sustainable development in the state. He described journalists as “critical stakeholders in nation building” whose role goes far beyond reporting events.

The governor made this known on Tuesday when he received the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, along with members of the NUJ National Executive Council, at the Government House, Kano. Represented by his deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, Governor Yusuf said transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness have been the guiding principles of his administration since assuming office, values that can only thrive with a vibrant and professional media.

“We believe that journalists are not just conveyors of news but essential partners in shaping the society. The Kano State Government will continue to create an enabling environment for the media to operate freely and responsibly. We will also invest in capacity building because a well-trained journalist is an invaluable asset to the community,” he said.

Governor Yusuf assured the NUJ leadership that his government is delivering on its campaign promises through projects and policies that touch every sector, including infrastructure development, educational reform, healthcare improvement, economic growth, and enhanced peace and security across the state. He pointed out that the NUJ team’s inspection tour of various projects has provided firsthand evidence of his administration’s commitment to the welfare and progress of Kano citizens.

Commending the NUJ for its constructive engagement with governments at all levels, the governor urged the union to continue upholding the ethics and values of the journalism profession.

In his remarks, NUJ President Comrade Alhassan Yahaya expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for hosting the NEC meeting and lauded the administration’s visible strides in infrastructural development. He noted that the delegation’s tour of the city, led by the State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, showcased significant progress in key areas.

Earlier, Comrade Waiya welcomed the NUJ executives to Kano and wished them fruitful deliberations, reiterating the state’s commitment to sustaining a strong, mutually beneficial relationship with the media.
