Mass defection has hit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State as thousands of PDP members defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

The gale of defection from the PDP to the APC brings to an end the skeletal opposition in the local government area.

The mass defection was orchestrated and led by a political stalwart in the local government area, Mr. Okim Sama, alias Cocoa Caterpillar, who told newsmen during the defection that the dysfunctionality of the PDP and its internal crisis necessitated their quest to seek a political cover.

According to Sama, they have decided to settle in the APC, whose ideology aligns with their principle.

Mr. Sama further noted that the good works of the current administration, headed by Governor Bassey Otu, and the Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Mrs. Mercy Nsor, also played a significant role in their dumping of the PDP for the APC.

He said the decampees are determined to contribute their quota in the development of the local government area and the state at large.

Receiving PDP decampees to the APC, the Chairman of Ikom Local Government Area, Mrs. Mercy Nsor, on behalf of the state governor and the APC leadership, accepted the defectors.

She assured them of equal rights, privileges, and opportunities in the party.

The local government chairman urged them to remain committed to the affairs of the local government and state to actualise the vision and ideology of the party in job creation and improving the lives of the citizens of the state.
