Reports indicate that several worshippers may have lost their lives after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated inside a mosque located in the Gamborun Market, Maiduguri, Borno state.
As reported by Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region, the explosion took place on Tuesday during the Magrib prayer, causing widespread panic in the bustling market.
Sources cited by Makama revealed that the blast partially destroyed the mosque, resulting in immediate fatalities among worshippers and leaving many others injured.
The report mentioned that the explosion prompted traders and local residents to flee the vicinity as thick smoke poured from the mosque, while some individuals rushed to help the victims before emergency services arrived.

Security personnel later secured the area to prevent additional casualties and to conduct an initial assessment of the situation.
At the time of this report, authorities had not yet confirmed the precise number of casualties.
