Several commuters narrowly escaped death on Monday following a serious accident involving a commercial bus and a Toyota Camry on the busy 3rd Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
The Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), in a statement posted on Facebook, confirmed that the crash occurred just before Adekunle Junction, inbound Lagos Island.
According to the RRS, the commercial bus somersaulted multiple times after colliding with the Toyota Camry, leaving many passengers injured.
“A commercial bus and a Toyota Camry were involved in an accident before Adekunle Junction. The bus somersaulted several times, leaving many passengers injured,” the statement read.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as the bus flipped repeatedly, with passengers screaming for help. RRS patrol teams and bikers swiftly arrived at the scene to administer first aid and assist the injured victims.

“Our men are currently assisting with first aid while officers of the Adekunle Police Division are also providing rescue support,” the RRS added.
Emergency services, including paramedics and traffic management officials, were quickly mobilised to the accident site, ensuring prompt medical care and traffic control.
Despite the severity of the crash, no fatalities were recorded. “The ill-fated vehicles have been evacuated, and free vehicular movement has been restored on the route,” the RRS confirmed.
Traffic incidents on the 3rd Mainland Bridge, one of the busiest highways in Lagos, often trigger significant gridlock. Motorists have been advised to drive cautiously to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of all road users.
